On the 3rd Monday of January, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the only nationally recognized day commemorating, honoring, or acknowledging the accomplishments and contributions of an African-American or Black American. Originally established in 1983 by then President Ronald Regan, MLK day has developed into a commemoration of the United States Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's.
