By presidential proclamation in 1990 by then President George H. Bush, November was designated as 'Native American Heritage Month' in order to memorialize the historic death and struggles of the Native American peoples that was caused by American Colonialism and recognize accomplishments and contributions of the Native American community to the growth and development of the United States.
