Purpose:
A career development plan maps what matters for faculty goals and goal alignment with department and college priorities. Learn why setting strategic goals can align faculty work with outcomes that matter. Learn how to focus invested time on teaching, research/scholarship/creative achievement, and service to benchmark short- and long-term meaningful impact. Participants receive the Individual Faculty career Development Plan (IFcDP) guide workbook and discuss how the IFcDP helps chart a path to academic career success and achieving promotion and/or tenure.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe how to set career goals and SMART objectives using an IFDP strategically
- Identify steps for navigating goals, objectives, key results, and measurable outcomes for academic success
- Plan for integrating feedforward and feedback on short-term objectives and long-term goals
Participants will assess and discuss:
- why faculty life at an academic health center can thrive when an IFcDP anchors expectations
- how an IFcDP contributes to early preparation for promotion and academic advancement
- what matters most when defining your goals, objectives, activities, and measuring results
- the role of an annual report and up-to-date curriculum vitae as data sources for career opportunities
- how to request feedforward and feedback from supervisors, mentors, and coaches
- previewing how to prepare a cohesive academic portfolio. What's the benefit/cost of starting now?
